Leeds Bradford Airport in the UK is deploying Leidos’s ClearScan carry-on baggage scanners, ProPassage Automated Tray Return Systems and the Mosaic Enterprise Software Platform to enhance the security screening process.
“This is an important component of our plan to modernise Leeds Bradford,” said Damian Ives, COO and Accountable Manager at the airport. “When installed, Leidos’s industry-leading equipment will make travelling through our airport a faster and smoother experience for passengers, enabling us to operate more efficiently and continue to meet the highest standards of safety.”
The agreement will see Leidos install four integrated ClearScan and ProPassage lanes. The former is a computed tomography (CT) scanner with advanced, threat detection algorithms. This capability eliminates the need to remove electronics and approved liquids from carry-on baggage, so is in line with the UK government’s plans to scrap the 100 ml liquid restrictions during the security screening process. With ProPassage, trays are automatically fed to passengers to divest their belongings for screening, while the integrated lanes will deliver higher throughput of passengers.
Leeds Bradford is also deploying Leidos’s enterprise software platform, Mosaic. This solution integrates and analyses real-time data to create a centralised security management system which will give the airport the ability to upgrade to centralised image processing capabilities.
The first lanes are expected to be installed in Q4 of 2023, with project completion due in early 2024.
Leidos partnered with London City Airport in the UK to transform the urban hub’s security screening process in line with the latest UK security requirements.
