SITA’s new mobile WiFi solution, MiFi to deliver portable, reliable wireless connectivity for airports and airlines.

The launch of SITA’s mobile WiFi (MiFi) will, according to the transport IT specialist, enable airports and airlines to access fast, flexible and secure wireless connectivity at all times whether landside or airside.

SITA MiFi has been designed to address common operational pain points. It uses bundled routers, MDA SIMS/ eSIMs, satellite solutions and Secure Service Edge (SSE) technologies to deliver seamless wireless roaming and dependable connectivity.

Reducing operational challenges

Martin Smillie, SVP, Communications and Data Exchange at SITA noted that airport customers can face real challenges when it comes to connectivity. He explained that SITA’s MiFi can help address these challenges “System outages, bandwidth limits, or lack of redundant capacity can lead to major disruptions, penalties and revenue loss,” he said.

However, with SITA MiFi, customers can leverage “fast, adaptable, one-stop solution that helps maximise busy periods and minimise costly downtime.”

According to SITA key features of its MiFi include:

  • SIM or eSIM compatibility in selected models, offering flexible connectivity options
  • 4G and 5G support using the latest mobile network technology for high speeds and capacity
  • Low-Eart-orbit (LEO) satellite and broadband coverage enable connectivity even in the most remote locations
  • Enhanced security with SSE, firewalls, VPN, intrusion detection and encryption to protect sensitive data

MiFi launch follows collaboration with UAP

SITA has also recently partnered with Urban-Air Port to deliver the digital and physical building blocks to unlock rapid deployment, safe operations and a seamless passenger experience for UAP’s vertiports. Central to this initiative is the Vertiport Management System (VMS), a cloud-based platform orchestrating every aspect of vertiport operations, including planning, resource allocation, passenger flow, weather data monitoring and security.
