Christchurch Airport in New Zealand has marked a milestone in its partnership with Australian low-fare carrier, Jetstar.

The carrier, which is celebrating 20 years in Christchurch, has carried more than 17 million passengers since launching at the airport in 2005.

The anniversary was also marked by the launch of a new service to Hamilton. The new route strengthens South Island-Waikato connections, offering travellers greater choice. It means that Jetstar now offers more than 1.9 million seats each year across six routes in and out of Christchurch.

Justin Watson, Christchurch Airport’s Chief Executive, said: “For two decades, Jetstar has helped connect our region with the rest of Aotearoa and the world. We’re proud of the relationship we’ve built and the millions of journeys that began or ended in Christchurch because of it.”

Adding that the new Hamilton service gives travellers even more choice, Watson said: “It supports both business links and whanau reconnecting for the Christmas season.”

He was joined by Jetstar’s head of New Zealand, Shelley Musk, who explained that Christchurch has always been integral to the airline’s network.

“This new route has always been a key part of our network and we’re proud to be expanding out of the Garden City as we mark this milestone.”
