Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration has introduced biometric corridors with on-the-move technology, becoming the first authority in the world to launch the Amadeus technology. The technology uses AI-enabled biometrics to validate passengers as they move through wide corridors, providing a seamless immigration experience that does not require stopping.
The launch is part of the “All Indonesia” initiative, a government-led project to streamline the entry process for international travellers. Two biometric corridors are deployed at Jakarta, and a third is deployed at Surabaya, however the initial deployment will be reserved for elderly and disabled travellers who can enrol via the ‘All Indonesia’ app. The process requires passengers to share passport details in advance, background checks are conducted before arrival at the airport, and then the corridor carries out the final check.
The biometric corridors were previously used to assist the arrival of Hajj pilgrims, with an estimated 220,000 people travelling between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia each year. For this period, the corridors facilitated over 30 border crossings a minute, and 50,000 passengers in total.
“Our collaboration with Amadeus and the Indonesia Immigration Department has been a true example of partnership in action,” said Andi Syach, CEO of PT. Sinergi Teknoglobal Perkasa. “By combining global expertise with local innovation, we are not only delivering world-class border solutions but also empowering Indonesia teams through technology transfer and capability building. This close cooperation ensures that the solutions deployed today will continue to evolve and serve the nation’s long-term vision for smart, secure, and seamless travel”
“The Seamless Corridor is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of our end-to-end portfolio for seamless travel, helping to remove friction and queues at the border,” commented Rudy Daniello, Executive Vice President, AirOps, Amadeus. “In combination with innovations in digital identity and biometrics at key airport service points, it’s finally possible for airlines, airports and governments to provide a truly seamless, secure experience, free from document checks, queues and barriers.”
