Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IndiGo paving the way for a world class MRO facility to be constructed at Kempegowda Airport in Benagluru.

In line with the agreement BIAL will allocate around 31 acres of land to IndiGo for the construction of a facility that will support the airline’s expanding fleet. The Indian carrier recently confirmed the conversion of 30 Airbus A350 options into firm orders and aims to expand its fleet from over 400 aircraft today to 600 by 2030. It is also planning to lease six Boeing 787 wide-body jets from Norse Atlantic Airways by early 2026. The new facility at Bengaluru will be equipped to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) infrastructure for the airline’s new and expanding fleet and further strengthens IndiGo’s operational presence at the airport.

The development of the MRO facility will also help strengthen the aerospace and defence ecosystem in Karnataka and complements IndiGo’s existing facility in Bengaluru and another in Delhi.

Commenting on the agreement, Hari Marar, MD and CEO at BIAL said: “This is a strong validation of the growth potential of BLR Airport and the City of Benagluru as a premier aviation hub. The partnership reinforces our commitment to developing world-class aviation infrastructure and enhancing BLR Airport’s role as India’s premire aerospace and MRO hub.”

The MoU also outlines broader collaboration between the airline and the airport in areas including network expansion, infrastructure development and joint marketing initiatives.

Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo added: “Developing broad IndiGo MRO capabilities marks a significant and strategic step for IndiGo. Partnering with BIAL underlines our shared commitment to drive long-term growth of the aviation ecosystem in Bengaluru.

He also underlined that “together with BIAL we are further shaping the future of Indian aviation by focusing on innovation, growth and global connectivity that will define India’s leadership in the skies.”
