iGA Istanbul Airport has inaugurated its fourth main runway, marking the first completed investment under the airport’s Phase 2 expansion programme. The opening ceremony was attended by Türkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.
The new runway represents a €890 million investment and forms part of a wider development push that also includes Florentia Village — Türkiye’s first luxury designer outlet built to international standards. The outlet, developed by Kalyon Construction and Italy’s RDM‑Fingen Group, was completed in 1.5 years with an investment of approximately €180 million.
These additions follow the recent opening of the 485‑room Hilton Istanbul Airport and the JETEX‑İGA Terminal for private aviation passengers, further strengthening Istanbul’s position as a leading global hub.
Speaking at the ceremony, iGA chairman of the board Cemal Kalyoncu said the latest investments support the “Century of Türkiye” vision. He described the runway as “an important milestone in a landmark project that is turning Türkiye’s global aspirations into a reality,” adding that Istanbul Airport continues to work toward establishing a world‑class transfer hub.
With the fourth main runway entering service, iGA Istanbul Airport now operates six runways in total. The new concrete runway runs East–West, measuring 2,820 metres long and 45 metres wide, complementing the airport’s three main and two auxiliary North–South runways. Following the successful implementation of Triple Independent Parallel Runway Operations in April 2025 — a first in Europe — the additional runway is expected to further increase operational capacity, efficiency and flexibility.
