Iberia Airport Services is expecting to ramp up its ground handling services during the summer months as a result of vaccination campaigns and the progressive lifting of restrictions breathing life into Spanish airports.

In May, Iberia Airport Services catered for a total of around 1.7 million passengers and more than 8,700 flights. Despite being around 70% below the figures for the same month in 2019, the figures are certainly a positive indication of traffic ramping up in the coming months. The Spanish airline group’s airport handling unit also signed 12 new clients including Swiss, TAP, Vietnam Airlines, Luxwing, One Airways and World2fly.

Key factors in winning these new clients were according to Iberia Airport Services down to its flexibility and adaptability to all requirements, both in Madrid and in Spain’s other 28 airports.

On peak days the airport handling unit, staffed by 7,000 people, will supply airport handling services to more than 1,000 flights, for which it is bringing on line its entire fleet of some 8,000 ground vehicles in Spanish airports, many of which were mothballed during the pandemic.

In the past months Iberia Airport Services has tailored its check-in, boarding, and arrival protocols to meet the different requirements of each of its airline clients, while attaining the maximum level of safety against COVID-19 transmission.

It also adopted the strictest measures to protect its employees at all 29 Spanish airports, earning official recognition as safe against COVID-19.
