Global aviation logistics specialist, Menzies, has expanded its cargo facilities by 40% at Los Angeles Airport (LAX) thanks to the addition of a new warehouse.

The new off-airport warehouse facility will handle import cargo. Meanwhile, an existing on-airport facility will continue to handle predominantly exports and Menzies also has a third warehouse at the airport which is operated by Air Menzies International and located off-airport.

The addition of the new warehouse to Menzies existing facilities more than doubles Menzies’ truck door capacity and in conjunction with new and efficient operating procedures for truck access will significantly enhance the customer experience. Menzies also has its own inter-terminal transport which keeps freight moving airside to landside.

“It is a major coup to secure these facilities as space is at a premium at Los Angeles International Airport, which is currently the epicentre for imports into the US,” said John Redmond, Executive Vice President, Americas at Menzies Aviation.

“By creating dedicated import and export facilities we have an opportunity to grow our cargo business in one of the busiest airports in the US. Menzies has an extensive portfolio of ground services, cargo services and fuel services at LAX and a team of almost 800 Menzies employees at that location, and we are excited about the opportunities created by this addition to our cargo facilities.”

With almost double the space and in recognition of significant market growth in LAX, Menzies can significantly expand its cargo operations and the new facility will provide existing airline customers with the warehouse capacity needed to grow. Supported by a team of more than 200 Menzies employees, all three facilities are custom bonded and collectively have the capacity to handle more than 130,000 tonnes per year.

Menzies is also expanding into new locations. It is particularly focused on the Americas in terms of  expanding its operations, having also launched cargo operations in Miami earlier this year. Its cargo network covers 53 locations across the globe.
