Smiths Detection has strengthened its partnership with Fukuoka Airport in Japan, deploying seven Hi-SCAN 6040 X-ray scanners and automatic tray return systems.
The state-of-the-art security screening equipment will be used in the airport’s newly renovated international terminal, with the installation of the system slated to be complete by the end of March 2025.
The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model S is a smaller, more lightweight version of Smiths Detection’s Computed Tomography (CT) passenger checkpoint scanner, the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX. This makes it easier to integrate into new airport infrastructure checkpoints, while still providing high-resolution, rotable 3D images of baggage contents, resulting in lower false alarms. According to Matt Clark, VP Commercial at Smiths Detection, the “industry-leading technology enhances security and improves the passenger experience. We are revolutionising both the domestic and international traveller experience throughout Japan, alongside delivering operational efficiency gains for our partners and bringing down energy costs through our industry-leading 3D X-ray solutions.”
A next-generation fully automated tray return system, the iLane A20 delivers high throughput and efficiency, to streamline the screening process and eliminating passenger bottlenecks. Together, the Hi-SCAN 6040 CTiX and iLane A20 combined can process over 300 passengers per hour
There are already more than 77 units of Smiths Detection’s 3D X-ray scanners in use as well as 156 iLane tray return systems across Japan’s airport network.
