The new routes come following the announcement of easyJet’s new three-aircraft base at Southend Airport, where the airline is offering Gran Canaria and Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Dalaman and Antalya in Turkey, Enfidha in Tunisia, Marrakech in Morocco and Pisa in Italy as new destinations.
“We are delighted to be putting 10 new routes on sale from our new base at London Southend Airport, which we look forward to opening next spring,” said Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager. “Our continued growth and investment in the UK highlights the importance of this market and provides UK consumers with even more choice. We have flown over seven million customers from London Southend since we started our operation there in 2012 and, whether they are flying for business or leisure, we look forward to welcoming even more of them onboard.”
easyJet began operations at London Southend in 2012, and, with the new routes, now offers seventeen destinations from the location. The new base is estimated to create around 130 jobs for pilots and crew in the UK, as well as indirect positions within easyJet and the airport.
“London Southend Airport is committed to providing a seamless, high-quality travel experience for people living in the east of London, Essex and East Anglia region, and we thank easyJet for expanding its range of choices,” commented Marc Taylor, acting CEO London Southend Airport. “Thousands of travellers from across the south east have already chosen London Southend as their airport of choice for trips to Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and France this summer, and advanced flight and holidays bookings already filling up for winter sun, city and ski breaks. With quick and easy direct connections to our airport – just 53 minutes from London Liverpool Street by train and 42 minutes from Stratford, London – our passengers can now access even more fantastic destinations across Europe.”
