In line with continued investment in its policing and safety functions, Cork Airport has welcomed the arrival of three new state-of-the-art policing and safety vehicles.

With Cork being Ireland’s second busiest airport and the gateway to the South of Ireland, offering links with destinations as far afield as the USA (Boston Providence), the new vehicles will assist the Airport Police Service (APS) and Safety Department, which are responsible for policing, operational security and safety on and around the airfield.

The three vehicle, which have been customised to meet the operational needs of the APS and Safety Department and include a hi-spec John Deere Gator Utility vehicle, which the APS will use to patrol and respond off-road on all terrains during severe weather conditions. A Skoda Kodiaq 4×4 patrol response vehicle has also been added to the APS fleet, while a new dedicated safety vehicle, a Dacia Logan, will ensure the continued compliance with new European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulations.

Con Dooney, general manager of operations and safety at Cork Airport, said: “It is fantastic to take delivery of these three new vehicles. They will play an important role in the continued safety and security operations at Cork Airport. This is part of our ongoing work with EASA to ensure Cork Airport continues to meet the highest standards of aviation safety.”
