Cork Airport is on track to exceed three million passengers travelling internationally this year, with a record 340,705 passengers in August.
“Both Cork and Dublin airports had very strong summers and I’m happy with how the entire daa business is performing. We are in very good shape on core airport operations and commercial activities, and our financials are strong,” said daa CEO, Kenny Jacobs. “Passenger satisfaction scores at our airports have never been better, we have brought in many new improvements for passengers (drop & go parking, new restaurants, click & collect shopping, faster wifi, additional seating) and more than 94% of passengers are getting through security in 20 minutes or less.”
The airport reached its two million passenger milestone on 21 August, three months earlier than the previous year.
Statistics by CSO have revealed that Cork is the fastest growing out of the three state airports in the first half of 2024, with a growth rate of 11 per cent. The August passenger record showed a 10 per cent increase compared to 2023, with 65,000 people using the airport during the August bank holiday weekend. This represented a 5 per cent increase on last year’s bank holiday weekend.
Jacobs added: “I am delighted that Cork Airport is now the fastest growing airport in Ireland. We want that to continue and see an opportunity to grow Cork by 40% in the next six to eight years.”
