Wednesday 22 February saw the return of Connect route development forum, which is this year being held in Tangier, Morocco in association with the Moroccan Airports Authority.

With the Atlantic Ocean gently lapping at the shore outside and the sun hinting at the promise of a good summer ahead, Habiba Laklalech, CEO of the Moroccan Airport Authority (ONDA – pictured) opened this year’s forum hailing the growth in Morocco’s tourism sector. The aviation sector has been key to that growth, she said.

“Aviation unites and connects people, culture and companies and a more connected world is a more prosperous and innovative world,” she said underlining the importance of building relationships and trust between airports and airlines.

Adel El Fakir, CEO Morrocan National Tourism Office echoed this sentiment saying: “One of positives that has come out of the COVID crisis is the trust between destination partners, airports, airlines and tourism stakeholders.” He also noted that developing the country’s aviation sector is key in the country’s strategy for growth with 35 new connections to eight cities in Morocco to be launched this year.
