Cologne/Bonn Airport is anticipating 1.76 million passengers over the next six and a half weeks for the summer holidays, which will mark the airport’s biggest peak for the year. Specifically, the weekend at the beginning of August is set to be the busiest, with 118,000 passengers, 41,000 of which will be on 8 August.

Over the summer, the airport serves flights to 101 international destinations in 36 countries, spread across 26 airlines. Egypt has seen the highest increase in visitors, with 40 per cent more tourists flying there from the airport this summer than last. For holidays, the most popular destinations are Turkey, Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia, and Portugal, in that order. For city breaks, Istanbul, Vienna, London, and Barcelona are the most travelled. Overall, Antalya and Palma de Mallorca are the most popular destinations.

“We are once again delighted to see an increase in passenger numbers – this year’s forecast even exceeds the successful summer travel seasons of the past two years,” said Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. “Many families are traveling to popular sunny destinations in southern Europe. We can offer many new restaurants and shops, are optimally prepared, and are looking forward to welcoming numerous travel-happy passengers to our terminals.”

Cologne/Bonn Airport recently updated its facilities with 15 new cafes, bars, restaurants, and shops, as well as new furniture, water dispensers, and design elements in the terminals.
