Collins Aerospace has unveiled its new mobile phone check-in and bag drop offering that eliminates the need for touching airport kiosks. The Kiosk Connect solution provides the first full, end-to-end, contactless airport journey.

There is no need to download any apps. Passengers simply have to scan a QR code with their mobile device to connect quickly to a common use kiosk using the airport’s public Wi-Fi or the kiosk’s built-in Wi-Fi. From there, passengers can then complete the check-in process on their phones and produce boarding passes and bag tags without ever touching the kiosk screen.

“Combined with our secure biometric solutions and self-service airport products, this new feature enables travellers to experience a contactless airport journey all the way form check-in to boarding,” said LeAnn Ridgeway, Vice President and General Manager, Information Management Services for Collins Aerospace. She added, “As we work to help the aviation industry rebuild passenger confidence in flying, it’s incredibly important to us to provide solutions to improve safety and which are easy to use.”

The Kiosk Connection solution complements Collins Aerospace’s ARINC SelfPass system, which enables passengers to complete a completely contactless journey through the use of a single token ID driven by secure biometrics. SelfPass can be applied to multiple points in the process, including check-in, immigration and security, lounge access and boarding.

The demand for biometric solutions that enable a contactless journey has grown significantly in recent months. This is  due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent need to reduce high frequency touch points such as kiosk screens and check-in desks.
