Bordeaux Airport has achieved a milestone as it saw passenger numbers rise above 7 million on 22 November, a record for the airport.

The airport has seen an increase of 1 million passengers in less than two years, and in 2019 the airport has already seen 13% growth by the end of November.

This growth is attributed largely to international flights, which account for 60% of passenger numbers, representing growth of 19.3% and 4,250,000 passengers. This year the direct flight network includes 162 routes – 46 new flight operations.

The airport also highlights that the major international connecting airports which are accessible from Bordeaux are another driving force behind the success – particularly to long-haul destinations, “Whose potential increased by more than 14% in 2019,” the airport explained.

The new passenger record is “underpinned” by 13 low-cost airlines, including several with bases in Bordeaux, including easyJet, Ryanair and Volotea, for a total of 11 aircraft.

The airport commented: “All these record-breaking figures promise an excellent end of the year for Bordeaux Airport.”
