Training solutions provider CAE is enhancing its Air Traffic Control (ATC) training solutions offering with the addition of its advanced 3D immersive tabletop training tool, known as CAE Ridge.

The off-the-shelf solution is already in use in military applications by CAE Defense & Security and is now being deployed to elevate both civil and defence Air Traffic Services training solutions. Not only will CAE Ridge help reduce time to licensing, it will also strengthen operational readiness for air traffic controllers.

Emmanuel Levitte, Chief Technology Officer, CAE, said: “Introducing immersive 3D visualisation early in the training process will help build confidence, competencies and situational awareness faster, increasing the effectiveness of training programmes, driving toward an optimal time to licensing.”

He underlined that with air traffic controllers facing increasing demands and challenges in line with growth in demand for air travel, controllers must prepare by developing strong mental models of airports, airspace structures and traffic flows before progressing to high-fidelity simulators and on the job training.

Although advanced training tools for 3D visualisation are regularly used for pilot and mission crew training, similar solutions for air traffic controllers have been limited. Turning traditional tabletop or more limited computer display training into immersive 3D environments, CAE Ridge provides a simulated airport environment to help instructors and new trainees.

“Our goal is to help ANSPs and training organisations adapt to a rapidly evolving operational landscape,” said Marie-Christine Cloutier, CAE’s VP, Strategy, Business Performance & Marketing.

“CAE Ridge exemplifies the potential of dual-use technologies and demonstrates how we can combine decades of simulation expertise and immersive synthetic environments to deliver scalable, commercially accessible tools that empower both instructors and learners.”
