Passengers travelling with Qantas through Brisbane Airport’s domestic terminal are set to benefit from a transformed security screening process.
The new screening point features five new security lanes, each equipped with Rapiscan CT (Computed Tomography) screening technology.
The CT scanners not only deliver a more secure screening process, but they also allow for laptops and aerosols to remain inside bags, making for a more efficient, seamless process.
“We’ve been in testing mode over the past week as our teams get up to speed with the new equipment, and we’re incredibly excited to see this brand-new screening point open to passengers from Tuesday,” said Stacey Pollard, Brisbane Airport Head of Terminal Operations.
“The fact that passengers will be able to leave laptops and aerosols in their bags will make a real difference and remove one of the biggest frustrations for frequent travellers,” she continued.
In addition to the new scanning equipment, the lanes also feature larger trays and automatic tray return.
The upgraded security screening point is part of a two-year construction project at Brisbane’s domestic terminal.
While Qantas passengers are first to benefit from the new technology, passengers travelling with other carriers will also soon benefit. Work is progressing on a new mezzanine level in the centre of the domestic terminal, which will deliver 10 lanes of security screening capacity. These additional lanes are on track to open by Christmas, in time for the festive season.
The new mezzanine is the size of four tennis courts and will create a new entry point to the domestic terminal. Work also continues in the airport’s international terminal to deliver the same security screening technology to passengers before the end of the year.
Brisbane Airport is currently in the process of a USD5 billion transformation.
