BlipTrack expansion at Birmingham Airport

To ensure that its operations continue to run smoothly, Birmingham Airport is expanding the roll-out of Veovo’s BlipTrack solution to cover all processes. The expanded roll out of the solution will also allow the airport (which handled 12 million passengers in 2018) to better match capacity with demand, as well as maximise revenue and improve the customer experience.

“It is a really exciting time for Birmingham Airport, as we have recently published our draft Master Plan that looks ahead to the year 2033,” said Chris Wilson, head of terminal operations at Birmingham Airport. “During this time the airport will develop and invest in its facilities to handle the expected 40% growth in passengers. Vital to this programme is a deep understanding of airport capacity, bottlenecks and constraints, and Bliptrack is key to this,” he added.

The expanded roll-out will broaden the airport management team’s view and understanding of how passengers move and use facilities as they journey through the airport. It will also allow the airport to better utilise resources and forecast the consequences of deviations to planned operations, as well as help improve the layout of existing facilities. By averaging data patterns over any time of day, specific periods, or for various areas, management will have a greater understanding of how travellers, processes and services influence and interact with one another.

“By investing in complete journey measurement from the kerb to the gate, the airport will develop an even greater knowledge of the customer journey and help to shape its future. This latest step in the measurement of the passenger journey builds on the great work that we have undertaken with Veovo since 2016.”

By rolling out BlipTrack’s solution across all its processes, Birmingham Ariport is following in the footsteps of other hubs, including Amsterdam, Auckland, Bristol, Keflavik and Billlund, that are leveraging the in-depth holistic insights of the solution.

Commenting on the expanded roll-out Preben Andersen, sales manager at BlipTrack Veovo said: “We are thrilled that Birmingham Airport has decided to expand BlipTrack to understand the passenger journey from start to finish to help keep things running smoothly and predictably. We are looking forward to helping the airport achieve their operational goals, and ensure that travellers enjoy a smooth travel experience.”

Birmingham Airport joins a host of other airports, including Amsterdam, Auckland, Bristol, Keflavik and Billund, that are leveraging the in-depth holistic insights of the solution, to help guide expansion plans, streamlining processes, optimise facilities and services, to accommodate rapid passenger growth and create a seamless travel experience as possible.
