Torino Airport has been busy celebrating its best summer ever, surpassing the 1,250,000 passenger mark for the period June-August 2022.
Confirming the recovery of the sector, the three-month summer period marks a traffic increase of +26% over the 2019 volumes for the same period at the Italian hub. After two consecutive months in Juen and July 2022 that had already marked record-breaking figures August marks traffic volumes of 427,042 passengers, up +33% on the same month in 2019. With the exception of the two-year pandemic, the handling of more traffic in August than in July hasn’t been seen at Torino since 2012.
In November 2021, the airport welcomed the launch of a Ryanair base, as well as the start of new flights with Wizz Air and Volotea, all of which have significantly added to the airport’s network and traffic.
While the summer months saw international traffic up +24% on 2019 with 593,684 passengers, the domestic market saw a +31% increase over 2019 with 657,120 passengers. Spain was the most popular international destination from Turin with Ireland, Denmark and the Czech Republic also proving popular despite being new to the airport’s network. Other popular destinations included Greece, Romania and Poland. In terms of domestic destinations, there was a strong preference for Southern Italy with Catania, Palermo and Bari driving demand.

Being able to reach this milestone is due to the wide network of flights and destinations offered: the airport’s role as a flywheel of the territory’s economy is confirmed, now connecting markets that were previously unreached and able to generate important flows of visitors interested in Turin and Piedmont. The records of the three summer months lay the foundations for a winter season that we hope will be successful: all the snow product from Northern Europe and Scandinavia has been reconfirmed and we already have four new destinations on the map including Stockholm, Manchester, Vilnius and Craiova.”
In the first eight months of 2022 so far, Torino Airport has welcomed more than 2 ,764,000 passengers and counting, marking a +3.1% increase on 2019 and recovering the negative differential accumulated in the first quarter of the year.
