In collaboration with Systems Interface, the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has successfully installed Doppler VHF Omnidirectional Radio Range (DVOR) and co-located Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) at Banjul International Airport.

UK-based Systems Interface, which specialises in air traffic management (ATM) systems integration,  was appointed to carry out the installation, commissioning and flight check of the DVOR and DME systems with the work including the site survey, detailed system design and coverage analysis.

The new systems were installed following the de-commissioning of the existing equipment. The deployment of the DVOR and DME combined deliver precise bearing and distance information  enabling pilots flying suitably equipped aircraft to safely navigate when approaching Banjul. Located about 25km southeast of the Gambian capital, Banjul Airport (also known as Yundum International Airport) serves as the main gateway for both domestic and international air travel to and from The Gambia.

“Having installed the previous DVOR/ DME over 20 years ago, we appreciate that once again GCAA invested its trust in Systems Interface to deliver, it demonstrates our incredible project delivery capability,” said David Chandler, Sales and Business Development Director at Systems Interface.
