Alstef at Nadi International Airport

To deliver a more reliable and efficient baggage system, Fiji’s Nadi International Airport has awarded a baggage handling system upgrade to Alstef Group.

In 2024, the airport handled just short of 3 million passengers. The upgrades are expected to help reduce congestion and manual handling, while future-proofing the airport’s operations, in line with Fiji’s growing aviation demands.

“Through this project we are integrating cutting-edge technologies that will significantly enhance airport operations, streamline passenger journeys and position Nadi International Airport for future growth,” said Fiji Airports CEO, Mesake Nawari.

In addition to upgrading 33 check-in counters with dual conveyors, the scope of the project also includes the installation of a new outbound screening line and the addition of one large new make-up carousel.

While the carousel will provide significant increase in capacity and operational flexibility, the new screening line will feature upgraded Standard 3 X-ray equipment to enhance security and screening efficiency. Meanwhile, the dual conveyors will include one for weigh-in and bag tagging and a second for bag queuing. In addition to increasing throughput this will improve the passenger flow during peak travel periods.

Arnaud Bouquet, Regional Sales Manger for Alstef Groups, said: “We are proud to support Fiji Airports in achieving this critical milestone.” He also noted the upgrade is about “delivering the additional capacity and resilience Nadi International Airport needs to keep pace with rising passenger numbers well into the future.”
