Excitement is rising for this year’s Aviation Africa summit, which is taking place in Sandton, Gauteng from 16-17 September.

Under the theme, ‘Bridging skies and leveraging growth’, the summit will unite the great and the good from across Africa’s aviation sector to look at how hurdles such as the growing frustration with delays to improvements and the lack of intra-African connectivity is leading to a new charge.

Regional Gateway Editor, Chloe Greenbank, will be moderating the airports panel on day one (16 September). Speakers will explore how air transport hubs, as critical cogs in aviation’s network are navigating the sector’s constantly evolving landscape in line with global expectations. Topics up for discussion will include infrastructure development, accessing secure and cost-efficient financial services, connectivity challenges, diversified revenue streams, leveraging the growth in ground handling opportunities, technological innovations and how airports across Africa are facing the pressure to meet net zero goals.

Speakers include Mpumi Mpofu, CEO, ACSA; Mwamba Nakambale Phiri, Airport Manager, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Zambia; Rampa Rammopo, CEO, Lanseria Airport; and Abdoulaye Cisse, Head of Africa MEAA, Menzies Aviation.

Chloe will also be moderating the ground handling panel on day two (17 September), where she will be talking to Sunam Datta, CCO, Skyplan; Albert Mouton, FBO Manager ExecuJet Aviation Group; Hussein Qubah, Director of Operations and Network Development, G.A.S; and Abdoulaye Cisse to discuss the growing demand for ground handling services across the board in Africa from scheduled flights to business aviation.

Underlining the growth and role of business aviation in the continent’s aviation sector, this year’s summit will be co-located with the African Business Aviation Association (AfBAA).
