Accessible aircraft ramp manufacturer, Aviramp, has secured new orders in the UK after strengthening its collaboration with Guernsey airline Aurigny at London Gatwick and Southampton airports.
As part of the deal, Aviramp has supplied fully electric step-free ramps for use by Aurigny at Southampton and London Gatwick. The agreement comes hot on the heels of another order from Guernsey Ports for two ramp at Guernsey Airport.
According to Aurigny, over 6,000 passengers had requested extra assistance on its flights over the last 12 months. The ramps help speed up the boarding process by an average of four minutes.
“We are delighted to have continued our successful partnership with Aurigny and to be able to supply ramps which will make life easier, safer and more dignified for all passengers and particularly those with mobility issues,” said Aviramp Chief Executive, Graham Corfield.
“There are some 850 of our ramps in use every day around the globe, with something like 50 million passengers a year using them to get on and off their aircraft in comfort and safety.”
Aviramp’s solar power
The new electric ramps operate on solar power for a full day without needing to be recharged and require just one person to control them safely.
While Aurigny’s deputy Chief Operations Officer, Dave Cox acknowledged there is still plenty more to be done to make air travel more accessible, he also said “it’s good to reflect on the progress being made.” By working with Aviramp and Guernsey Ports, he noted “travellers can now benefit from smoother, faster and more dignified boarding experiences.”
Noting that the low-angled ramps are fitted with a unique non-slip surface to improve safety, Aaron Carpenter, Communications Officer for Guernsey Ports said the new ramps “are making a real difference to all our travellers.”
