In line with its commitment to protect biodiversity, Vinci Airports (in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society, has launched a campaign to detect and prevent cases of wildlife trafficking.
The current capacity of airports across the region to combat wildlife trafficking will be addressed, while images from baggage scanners will also be collated, and inspections in departure terminals and training employees will be reinforced. The campaign also aims to raise passenger awareness of the dangers and damage caused by wildlife trafficking.
Broadcast in the airports of Manaus, Tabatinga, Téfé, Rio Branco, Cruzeiro do Sul, Porto Velho, Boa Vista and Salvador Bahia, the campaign is part of Vinci Airports’ commitment to the Buckingham Declaration signed in 2023. A dding its support to the declaration means the international network has also joined the international partnership for the fights against trafficking –United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce.
Karen Strougo, CEO of Aeroportos dos Amazonia, said: “We know the important role that airports play in combatting wildlife trafficking, to reduce the devastating impacts of this practice. With this alliance with WCS, we will undoubtedly be even better prepared to contribute to this process. We will also contribute to the dissemination of this information, engaging the population to help preserve our biodiversity, which is so rich and unique.”
