Amadeus and Avinor have formed a partnership to expand the reach of Amadeus’ technology through Norway’s state-owned airports.

43 Norwegian airports will be upgrading to Amadeus’ Cloud Use Service (ACUS) across service points and self-service check in kiosks, with the option to integrate the use of biometrics within the passenger experience, including check-in, lounge access and boarding, and reducing manual document verification.

These services will be available from staff-operated devices, rather than the traditional set up using fixed service points at check-in desks. Check-in staff members will be present throughout airports with tablets or mobile phones, allowing passengers to scan passports and biometric data, and receive baggage tags and boarding passes, from anywhere in the airport. The system will help to reduce wait times due to queues, and eliminate the need to transport bags to a specific point in the terminal for drop-off.

“Avinor has long led the way with technology innovation and has a strong belief in the power of new technology to reduce the cost of operations and improve the airport experience,” said Yann Guillemain, SVP EMEA Airport & Airline Operations, Amadeus. “This is a flexible contract that sees Avinor adopt a wide range of our existing products but I’m particularly excited about the co-development our teams will undertake to conceive entirely new ways to serve passengers.”

Avinor, which has a hub in Oslo and operates smaller regional airports, aims to facilitate the management of low-traffic airports and reduce operational costs by implementing the portable device software rather than more expensive Flight Information Display units and manned check-in desks. One recent Amadeus feature that Avinor has included in its services is Amadeus Airport Insights, a data and analytics platform. The platform uses AI and other software to monitor data events from terminal touchpoints, such as high passenger traffic areas, to improve the management of Amadeus technology and enhance passenger experience.

“Our airline customers and travelers expect a modern airport experience with minimal queuing and a fast, pleasant and efficient service,” commented Simen Bergsrud, Head of Digital Services, Avinor. “Our teams will work hand-in-hand with Amadeus to co-create an outstanding passenger experience that helps to bring the joy back to air travel. Technology is advancing quickly, and we envisage a future with less terminal hardware and a much more flexible approach to serving passengers.”

Brisbane Airport recently chose Armadeus’ technology for its passenger check-in self-service solutions.
