It has been a time of change for Manassas Regional Airport, in Virginia, United States, as it prepares to say goodbye to one of its Fixed Base Operators, and also celebrates the beginning of works on a new FBO facility.

Full service FBO, Dulles Aviation, which started at the airport in 1970 with one hangar, announced it will be closing its operations at the Manassas Regional Airport on 31 May.

After opening at the airport in 1970, Dulles Aviation quickly needed additional hangar storage and five years later acquired a new hangar. The FBO later built two new hangars on the east side of the airfield to support the growing need for commerce on both sides of the airport.

In the mid-80’s, Dulles Aviation started their flight school and have trained hundreds of pilots over the years.

In a statement Manassas Regional Airport said the FBO became “a cornerstone for the airport and experienced the growing pains that every busy General Aviation (GA) airport experiences.

“One thing that has never changed about Dulles Aviation is their long-term commitment to offering pilots and passengers the best customer service and aviation experience.”

“We are thankful for the partnership and quality of service that Dulles Aviation has contributed to the Manassas Regional Airport,” says Juan Rivera, airport director. “Dulles Aviation has been a catalysis in the growth and development of the airport. We wish Tom and Joe Gardner and all their instrumental employees, the best.”

The airport will host a reception of appreciation in June. All FBO facilities will be available through the APP Jet Center.

Chantilly Air celebrates FBO groundbreaking

Earlier in the month, charter and aviation services provider, Chantilly Air, celebrated the groundbreaking of their new fixed base operation at the airport.

Expected to open in the first quarter of 2020, Chantilly Air’s new FBO will feature over 90,000 square feet of hangar and office space and amenities including passenger lounge areas, crew fitness center, executive conference rooms and a crew planning area.

Additional tenant offices will also be available for lease on the second and third floors of the facility.

Chantilly Air will pair its established offerings, including its FAA Diamond awarded Part 145 Repair Station, to create what it says will be the airport’s only FBO offering turnkey aviation solutions including charter, maintenance, management, ground support and hangar facilities.

“The Chantilly Air Team looks forward to growing general aviation activity at the Manassas Regional Airport by providing comprehensive aviation services,” said Tim Sullivan, Chantilly Air COO, adding, “superior customer service is at the core of who we are, and our expanded facilities will allow us to provide this to anyone flying into the airport.”

He continued, “We are grateful for the support of the City of Manassas and the Manassas Regional Airport Commission as we create an airport that becomes the hub of economic development for the area.”

Speaking during the ceremony, chairman of the Manassas Airport Commission, Dan Radtke, expressed the importance of strategic growth of the airport, including the over nine-acre Chantilly Air complex, to support the growing business activity in the city.

“We’re excited to expand our role to help support the thriving business communities of Northern Virginia and Washington DC,” added Caleb Stitely, Chantilly Air’s marketing and client relations manager, “business aviation is a catalyst for success for many companies and we look forward to welcoming them to the area.”
