AirportLabs’ revolutionary SkyCore airport operational database (AODB) has been awarded a Red Dot Award for its outstanding design. The award attracts almost 9,000 entries from more than 50 countries annually.
The award recognises the software system’s innovative approach to simplifying complex airport operations through intuitive, user-friendly interfaces.
Commenting on the award, Sergiu Bolba, Product Designer at AirportLabs, said: “We understand that behind every seamless airport experience are hardworking professionals who deserve intuitive tools. We’ve dedicated years to perfecting SkyCore AODB, focusing on user-centric design that transforms complex operational data into manageable, visually appealing interfaces. Our goal was to create a solution that becomes a natural extension of the operator, allowing airport staff to focus on efficient operations and passenger satisfaction.”
He added that being a recipient of the Red Dot Award validates AirportLabs’ approach of merging empathetic design with powerful functionality.
A meticulously designed cloud-based solution, SkyCore AODB seamlessly handles and visualises large volumes of intricate data related to flights, passengers and baggage across multiple airports in real-time. The software is like “the brain” of an airport acting as a smart computer system that collects and shares important information about everything happening in the airport in real-time. It works by collecting and organising data from various airport systems, presenting it in an easy-to-understand format and supports the collaboration of all stakeholders involved in airport operations.
The system uses familiar digital interaction patterns to ensure ease-of-use and rapid-time-to-value. It also enables staff to respond effectively to situations even during peak periods or unexpected events, ensuring smooth operations from check-in to take-off.
