This year marks the 11th anniversary of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), which was started to promote the amazing work that women engineers across the globe are doing, in different sectors including aviation. Aviation fuel and services supplier Air bp is celebrating the day with a video (see below) shining a spotlight on some of the inspiring women across its team.
Under the theme ‘Enhanced by engineering’, this year’s INWED gives female engineers around the world a profile when they are still hugely under-represented, with 2021 figures indicating that in the UK alone only 16.5% of engineers are women.
As a business, Air bp is focused on improving diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) across its workforce and the wider aviation sector. Ahead of this year’s INWED, which will take place on 23 June, the aviation fuel supplier has released a short video celebrating some of the inspiring females working across its business in different countries across the globe and whose lives have been enhanced by engineering.
The four members of Air bp’s team featured in the video include: Miriam Chang, VP Marketing, Strategy and Sustainability; Mia Zekic, Design and Safety Engineer Apprentice; Haley Mahoney, VP Asia Pacific and Amanda Martin, North Americas HSSE and Ops Excellence Lead. They explain how their engineering experience has been a career accelerator, what it takes to lead in typically male dominated roles and what Air bp is doing to support women in front line roles.
