tax refundTravelex has been chosen to exclusively provide foreign exchange and tax refund services at Düsseldorf Airport after winning the five-year contract.

Trading will open from 1 February 2027 and will see Travelex open an initial five stores and ATMs in both Arrivals and Departures, with two landside and three airside locations. Travellers will have access more than 50 foreign currencies.

Entering Düsseldorf Airport means Travelex will operate in six of Germany’s busiest airports, having already established presence in airport bureaus and ATMs in Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich airports.

Leonard Stolk, Travelex’s Managing Director – Europe (pictured), said: “It’s a testament to the Travelex brand and our people to be chosen to exclusively operate and provide travel money solutions at Düsseldorf Airport. Düsseldorf is one of Germany’s most dynamic cities, with a strong tourism economy and thriving business community, attracting over three million tourists a year. Operating at the six of the busiest airports in Germany is a huge milestone for Travelex and reflects our long-standing commitment to the German market.”

The latest contract win comes at a time when cash remains an essential resource for travellers. According to findings in the inaugural Travelex Travel Money Insights report, nine out of 10 European travellers said they use cash when abroad, preferring to take cash to pay for small items and tips when abroad, and for peace of mind where cards may not be accepted.

Anja Dauser, Head of Commercial at Düsseldorf Airport, said: “Our ambition is to be among the best airports in Europe in the category of up to 30 million passengers. Achieving this requires not only efficient infrastructure and excellent operational performance, but also a strong commitment to service quality throughout the entire passenger journey. As we continue our transformation into a ‘Destination of Excellence’, we rely on strong partners who share our high standards. Travelex is exactly such a partner. We are delighted to have secured this internationally experienced company to provide our passengers with foreign exchange and tax refund services in the future.”

Travelex opened its first German bureau in Frankfurt in 1993 and today operates a total of 25 stores and 60 ATMs across the country. The Düsseldorf Airport tender win follows Travelex’s recent appointment as the exclusive travel money provider at Munich Airport’s new EUR 665 million Terminal 1 extension pier.

Düsseldorf is Germany’s fourth-busiest airport, handling over 21 million passengers in 2025 and offering flights to more than 160 destinations. It was also named “Best Regional Airport in Europe” at the 2025 Skytrax World Airport Awards.

Leonard Stolk added: “We’re ready and excited to ensure travellers through Düsseldorf Airport have convenient and secure access to travel money, supporting the airport’s mission to be one of the leading transit hubs in Europe.”
